Russian people
celebrate Christmas
on the 7th of January.
Before Christmas we
fast for forty days. We
cannot eat meat of
cheese, butter or icecream, but we can eat
fish, vegetables and
fruit.

On Chistmas Eve
Russian people
decorate a Chistmas
tree with coloured
balls and little
coloured lights. The
churches are
beautifully decorated
with Christmas trees
and flowers.

At night there is a
beautiful Christmas
service and a lot of
people go to church
on Christmas night.
After church Russian
people give each
other presents. When
they come home, they
eat a lot of tasty food
for Christmas dinner.

Children enjoy
Christmas becouse
there are a lot of
wonderful Christmas
parties! There is an
interesting tradition —
children sing special
Christmas songs
(«kolyadki») and get
tasty sweets, fruit or
cookies!
