Elena Aleksandrovna Krutovskaya is the
founder of the living corner in the Stolby
Nature Reserve, zoologist, granddaughter
of the famous doctor Vladimir
Mikhailovich Krutovsky.
Many Krasnoyarsk residents have forever
remembered the pets of the living corner
and loved them.

Elena Aleksandrovna Krutovskaya
was born on September 24, 1914 in
the city of Krasnoyarsk in a famous
family. One of her grandfather —
Vsevolod Mikhailovich Krutovsky —
was a famous gardener in Siberia,
the Laletinsky Botanical Garden,
created by him, exists to this day. In
April 1945 Vsevolod Mikhailovich
was buried in the Laletinsky
Garden.

grandfather,
Vladimir Mikhailovich Krutovsky,
was a doctor, the founder of the
first paramedic school and
hospital for the poor. Vladimir
Mikhailovich Krutovsky was at
the origins of the creation of the

public library, the medical
newspaper "Siberian Medical
Vedomosti". It was in the family
of
Vladimir
Mikhailovich
Krutovsky, the father of her
mother, Elena Vladimirovna,
that Elena Alexandrovna spent

Since early childhood, Elena
loved animals, painted animals.
Later, she continued her drawing
studies at the Vasily Surikov
Krasnoyarsk Art School. Lena
read a lot, her favorite books
were about animals, she wrote
poems about nature. She knew
several languages (English
perfectly). Children's plays were
staged in their house.

After graduating from the
Biological Faculty of the
Krasnoyarsk Pedagogical
Institute in 1938, Elena
Krutovskaya left for Sukhumi
(Republic of Abkhazia), where
she studied zoopsychology at
the Institute of Experimental
Medicine. But due to asthma,
Elena Alexandrovna returned to
Krasnoyarsk. In 1940, she
worked in the Stolby Nature
Reserve as a zoologist of the
reserve. Elena Alexandrovna
conducted research work on the
study of birds and animals.
The Stolby Nature Reserve
became a second home for her.

Wounded animals and birds began
to get to Elena Krutovskaya. Then
she decided to create an animal
shelter, calling it the "Shelter of Dr.
Aibolit". Here the animals found
care, food, treatment and great
love of the hostess of the corner
and her assistants. Many
Krasnoyarsk residents have forever
remembered the pets of this "living
corner" and fell in love with the
squirrel Balamutka, Mikha-Taiga,
Varnachka crow, Karysh crow, Pan
Kazimir hare, Lars wolf, Dixie lynx
and many others. In 1961, the
shelter received the status of a
«living corner».

Elena Alexandrovna's husband
James Georgievich Dulkeit is a
wonderful photographer, a master,
"golden hands". He built all the
aviaries, cages and animal houses
in the corner. In the early 1970s,
the "living corner" and its head,
E.A. Krutovskaya, became popular
not only among Krasnoyarsk
residents, but also among
residents of other cities.

In 1955, the Krasnoyarsk Book
Publishing house published the
first children's book by E.A.
Krutovskaya "Forest Wonders".
Later, in different years, "Tame
Savages", "Loska", "Dixie",
"Shelter of Dr. Aibolit", "Were of
the Reserved forest" were
published. Her books taught love,
kindness and respect for animals.
People's Artist of the USSR Faina
Ranevskaya came to visit Elena
Alexandrovna, who cleaned the
"living corner". F.Ranevskaya
wrote: "I read your book and cried
with joy that there is such a person
in the world."

Elena Aleksandrovna Krutovskaya
died on September 7, 1984, a little
before she reached her 70th
birthday. Shortly before that, on
February 23, 1984, James
Georgievich Dulkeit died.
In 1990, Yuri Ustyuzhaninov made a
documentary film "Tomorrow will be
a good day" about Elena
Aleksandrovna Krutovskaya.
In addition, in memory of the
zoologist, a regional nominal
scholarship was established, which
is awarded to students and
schoolchildren for achievements in
the field of agricultural and biological
sciences.
