The system and structure of
education in the United
Kingdom.
For today education in the UK is divided into 4 main
stages:
-Primary school (5-11 years)
-Secondary school (11-16 years)
-Tertiary education (16-18 years)
-Higher education (from 18 years and older)

General information on secondary
school education in England
All children aged 5-16 in the UK are required to
complete secondary education in one of the public or
private schools. As for children whose parents are not
British citizens, but are in the country on a long-term
visa for more than 6 months (student, work, business,
investor, etc.), they are granted the right to attend any
public school.

For international students whose parents
reside outside the United Kingdom, as a
rule, only private boarding schools are
open. Most British schools (especially
state schools) operate as co-educational
institutions: boys and girls study together,
in mixed classes. Most schools are secular,
but there are also institutions belonging
to the Catholic or Anglican Church,
Jewish institutions, etc.

Private schools
Among private schools, separate education is
much more widespread: many well-known and
prestigious boarding schools are designed only
for boys or only for girls. Independent schools can
independently approve their curricula: this
allows us to take the national standard as a
basis, but to make it more diverse, interesting
and comfortable for children. As a rule, there are
fewer academic performance tests and exams
here than in state ones, and classes include up to
15 people so that the teacher can pay maximum
attention to each student. As can be seen from
the description, private schools differ in their
individual approach – but you have to pay for it.

International students can get financial
support to study in the UK in many ways.
This may be assistance from the British
government or programs offered by
international charitable foundations and
organizations. Some of them cover all the
costs of tuition, accommodation and even
flights, others – some part of the tuition
fee, and some even represent a certain
amount of money, regardless of the
program and university you choose.

Results
Summing up the work done, we can say that the British education
system is somewhat similar to the Russian one, but there are quite
significant differences. For example, in England there are quite a lot
of private schools that are usually paid. In Russia, education is free
and private schools are not so in demand.
