Language?
Our research found that English is recognised as an official language
by law in 55 countries worldwide. That’s 28.5% of the world’s
countries.
If we include countries that have English as an official language by fact
(not recognised by law), this increases the total to 75, therefore
meaning that 39% of the world’s countries have English as one of their

What is GlobalEnglish?
Global English is a simplified version of the English language, it is a
set of rules for writing globally. It is also known as international English
or world English.
11.
What is the differencebetween standard English
and global English?
- The standard English that native speakers use has
lots of sayings and idioms that can be difficult to
translate across the world.
- There are lots of unique grammar features and even
some challenging tenses such as the passive voice.
12.
Why is GlobalEnglish useful?
13.
What are the key featuresof Global English?
Consistent word order
Short sentences
No passive voice used
No figurative language
Logical and literal words
14.
Things to rememberabout global English:
It's not a literal translation to other languages as all
languages are so different it can't be one.
It should still sound natural to a native speaker.
It is written with the audience in mind so anyone can
understand it rather than over formalising it.

04The perspectives
of the
development of
the English
16.
Baugh and Cable listed severalchallenges they considered
parameters to be used to predict
the future of English:
1. The actual size of the English-speaking population.
2. Changing scenes, conditions, and realities.
3. The rise of Chinese.
4. Emerging research trends.
17.
The first prediction:It is anticipated that with English growing big in population size, it could
turn into a ‘monster’ that leads to the death of many vulnerable
languages with a smaller number of speakers.
18.
The second prediction:English like Latin, might produce more varieties that would eventually
develop into distinct codes.
19.
The third prediction:English will continue to grow as a global language for more
dominance and expansion, especially with the growing populations
of the people who use English in the outer and expanding circles.

is doubled when adding an ending,
like:

BrE — colour, AmE — color
Similarly, the British -our endings
become -or in American:

GRAMMAR:Some irregular verbs are spelt differently in British vs American
English.

The emergence of English as a global language has brought aboutsignificant transformations and changes. It is predicted that English will
adapt to new environments and face challenges from other languages such
as Mandarin, Arabic, and Spanish. Additionally, there will be numerous
varieties of English spoken worldwide, potentially outnumbering native
speakers of British English. Despite these changes, it is believed that
English will remain a global language in the future with different
perspectives and variations. Therefore, people should not view English as a
disadvantage but rather an opportunity for improvement. It is also important
for individuals to promote and use their local languages to preserve them for
future generations.
