School of Foreign Languages
General Information
- English Preparatory Programme is for the students whose
English language proficiency is below the required level to
continue their studies in the departments.
-English Preparatory Programme aims at preparing students for
their further academic studies through an intensive English
language training.
- Normally, English Preparatory Programme is one-year, but can
also be completed in one semester depending on the student’s
performance in exams.

Proficiency Exam
• Proficiency Exam is taken at the beginning and at the
end of each academic semester (September, January,
June). Those who attend the Summer School can also
take the Proficiency Exam in August.
• Students who obtain 60% and succeed the Proficiency
Exam can start their studies in their departments.

Level Exam
Students who cannot achieve the required grade in the
Proficiency Exam are placed in appropriate levels in the
Preparatory Programme (e.g. Beginner, Elementary)
• Each Level Lasts 6 - 7 Weeks.
• At The End Of Each Level Students Take Level Exam.
• If They Succeed In The Level Exam, They Continue
Their Education In a Higher Level.
• If They Fail In The Level Exam, They Repeat Their
Same Level.

Attendance
• Students must attend all the lessons in order to pass
their level exams.
• Students have 20% right for absenteeism.
• If they miss more than 20% of the courses, they may
lose their right to enter the level exam.

Quizzes
• There will be two announced quizzes, a reading
quiz and a pop quiz.
• Quiz 1: It will be held on 14.03.2023
• Quiz 2: It will be held on 27.03.2023.
• Reading Quiz: The students will be responsible
for reading a book according to each level and
there will be a quiz about it on 21.03.2023.
• Pop Quiz: Pop quiz is an unannounced quiz
which can be done during the lecture hours.

Pearson Assured Accreditation
Cyprus International University, School of Foreign Languages,
English Preparatory Department has been accredited by Pearson
since January, 2015. This accreditation shows that the quality
processes of the English Preparatory Department of the School of
Foreign Languages meet an independent, international quality
benchmark. You can receive an accreditation certificate proving
that the programme you have completed meets international
education standards.

How to get your Accreditation Certificate?
You can apply for an accreditation certificate, to be prepared by “Pearson
Assured” for the Cyprus International University English Preparatory
Department, provided that you meet the following conditions:
1. Being successful in Proficiency Exam of Cyprus International
University English Preparatory Department.
2. Filling in the Pearson Accreditation Certificate Application Form online
on sis.ciu.edu.tr.
3. Reviewing the applications by the Testing Office and the Accounting
Office.
4. Depositing the fee into Nova Bank branch at the University Campus or
paying the fee online on sis.ciu.edu.tr.
5. Checking your request result on sis.ciu.edu.tr.

Application Deadlines
1. Application deadline: 26 January
2. Application deadline: 15 June
3. Application deadline: 15 October
• The certificates are going to be printed in the U.K. and sent to
us via mail, students will be able to get the certificates from the
Testing Office at Preparatory Department.
