Today we are going to speak about
Easter. Easter is a time of springtime
festivals. In Christian countries Easter
is celebrated as the religious holiday
commemorating the resurrection
of Jesus Christ, the son of God.

поминовения чудесного воскресения распятого на

of the year in different countries. It is full of
customs and traditions. Today we’ll speak
about of Easter celebration in the UK, the
USA and of course in Russia.

Palms
The week of Easter begins on Palm Sunday.
Why Palm Sunday? Well, in Roman times it was
customary to welcome royalty by waving palm
branches. So, when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem
on what is now known as Palm Sunday, people
welcomed him with palm branches in their
hands. Today, on Palm Sunday, Christians carry
palm branches in parades, and make them into
crosses and garlands to decorate the Church.

In our country the Sunday before
Easter is called a Willow Sunday.
On this day people bring home
some willow branches which have
been blessed in church.

There is also a Good Friday.
It’s the day when in Russia
women bake Easter bread
called “paska” or “paskha”.
The Friday before Easter
Sunday and the Monday after
are bank holidays in the UK

is a popular tradition in Russia,

In the north of England they still carry out
the custom of egg rolling. Hard boiled eggs
are rolled down the slope of a hill to see
whose egg goes furthest.

In Russia on Easter morning people
congratulate each other by saying
“Christ is risen”, and the reply is “he
is risen indeed”.
In Great Britain and in America
people congratulate each other by
saying “happy easter”.

Conclusion
Заключение
• Праздник Пасхи не имеет постоянной календарной даты и
празднуется как в России, так и в англоязычных странах
(Англии, США) в разное время. Это связано с тем, что в
России расчёт ведётся по Юлианскому календарю, а в
Англии и США по Григорианскому.
В целом, традиции празднования Пасхи очень похожи
(Вербное воскресенье, Чистый четверг, Страстная
пятница, службы в храмах, окрашивание яиц,
пасхальный семейный обед и многое другое), несмотря на
то, что в каждой стране есть свои отличия.
• Мы узнали, что на Пасху, в отличие от россиян, англичане
и американцы
имеют четыре государственных
выходных дня.
• Традиции празднования Пасхи во многом перекликаются с
русскими, что и неудивительно, религия-то одна: те же
символы, тот же обычай накрывать стол и только нет в
России кролика Банни, так радующего английских и
американских ребятишек.
