Introduction
Culture is the symbolic process by which
people cognitively organize their reality
and communicate their way of life. Humans
are cultural beings, with culture-specific
orientations to reality (that is, forms of
consciousness) and motivations attributed
to cultures that vary by history, type of
society,
and
individual
experience.
Distribution of power is therefore an
inevitable cultural issue.

4.

"Political culture is the set of attitudes, beliefs, and
sentiments, which give order and meaning to a political
process and which provide the underlying assumptions
and rules that govern behavior in the political system"
Definition

5.

National Identity
It is worth mentioning that a certain political
culture is limited by true subjective identities.
Common symbols and ceremonies traditional in
this or that culture (e.g. Independence Day,
Victory Day, etc.) make political culture
meaningful. Hierarchy or egalitarianism can be
observed in values themselves setting limits on
political participation and creating a foundation
of legitimacy. They are inherited through
socialization and shaped by shared historical
experiences that form a collective or national
memory.

6.

• Trust is a major factor in political culture, as its level
determines the capacity of the state to function.
• Postmaterialism is the degree to which a political culture is
concerned with issues which are not of immediate physical
or material concern, such as human rights and
environmentalism.
• Religion has also an impact on political culture.

Types of political culture
• Ecclesiastical. This type is characterized by little
awareness of the existence of the central
government, their lives are independent from
state decisions and pay little attention to politics.
• Subject. In this case citizens are aware of the
central government, they depend on its decisions
and political dissent is a rare phenomenon
• Participants. This type means that citizens both
influence and influenced by government in a
number of ways. This type of political tendency is
usually consistent with democratic political
structures.

Examples
United States
The political culture of the United States
was
heavily
influenced
by
the
background of its early immigrants, as it is
a settler society. Samuel P. Huntington
identified American politics as having a
"Tudor" character, with elements of English
political culture of that period. Another
source of political culture was the arrival
of Scotch-Irish Americans, who came
from a violent region of Britain, and
brought with them a strong sense of
individualism.

9.

Examples
China
The political culture of China is tied closely to
political socialization, as children are
indoctrinated into the collectivist perspective
of the Chinese Communist Party. Chinese
political culture perceives the relationship
between government and individuals to be a
hierarchy. Because of this, there is little
pushback from individuals during policy and
regulation change. The political culture also
shows a trend against confrontationality,
which decreases the quantity and frequency
of social conflict. Both of these qualities stem
from traditional Chinese values imbedded
during the age of Confucianism.

10.

Conclusion
Political culture is the major part of our lives. If
we want to know more about foreigners, their
mentality and their cultural specifics, we
should take into consideration political culture
of their motherland. Understanding of the
mindset is the base for international
communication.
