EVOLUTION

What is Evolution?
• Evolution-gradual change in the characteristics of a
species over several generations and relies through
various process over time.

4.

FORCES OF EVOLUTION
• There are mainly four forces of evolution:
• Mutation,
• Gene flow,
• Genetic Drift
• Natural Selection
which are responsible for fueling the evolution of life
on our planet.

5.

MUTATION
• Mutations are changes in the
DNA sequence of a cell's
genome. When mutations
occur, they may alter
the product of a gene, or
prevent the gene from
functioning, or have no
effect.

GENETIC DRIFT
• Genetic drift is the random
fluctuations of allele
frequencies within a
population from one
generation to the next.
• Smaller the size of
population more likely
there is major shift in
allele frequency.
