2.

Fundamentals of Human-Computer Interaction
▪ Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a relatively new science
that includes study, planning and development of interaction
between people (users) and computers.

3.

Why do human-computer interaction?
to enable us to design interactive products to support people
in their everyday and working lives

4.

Excellence in HCI is important for several reasons:
• Quality of life.
• National competitiveness.
• Growth of the computer and communications industries.
• National security.

5.

What is HCI?
▪ Human
▪ Computer
▪ Interface
▪ Interaction

6.

User Experience UX
▪ User experience is the totality of the effect or effects felt by a
user as a result of interaction with, and the usage context of, a
system, device, or product, including the influence of usability,
usefulness, and emotional impact during interaction, and
savoring the memory after interaction.

7.

What is a prototype?
▪ A prototype is an early sample, model, or release of a product built to
test a concept or process.
• Different kinds of prototyping:
- Low fidelity
- High fidelity

8.

Types of Prototype and their Usage
There are many types of the prototype here is ten of those types:
▪ 1. A film (movie) prototype
▪ 2. Feasibility Prototype
▪ 3. Horizontal Prototype
▪ 4. Rapid Prototype
▪ 5. Simulations
▪ 6. Storyboard
▪ 7. Vertical Prototype
▪ 8. Wireframe
▪ 9. Animations
▪ 10. Mock-up

9.

The ergonomics
• Physical aspects of interfaces
• Study of the physical characteristics of interaction

10.

Ergonomics - examples
• arrangement of controls and displays
e.g. controls grouped according to function or frequency of use, or sequentially
• surrounding environment
e.g. seating arrangements adaptable to cope with all sizes of user
