Labor Day became a national holiday gradually. February 21,
1887 it was officially recognized in Oregon , then took the
same decision several states of America . In 1894 , Labor Day
has had an official status in more than 20 US states , and as a
result of the 28 June of the same year , the US Congress
declared the first Monday in September, official holiday .

For many years the
celebration of labor Day
included parades on the
streets of American cities,
the purpose of which was
to Express the role of the
working class in creating
the most efficient
economy in the world,
and festivals for workers
and their families.
Currently in large cities,
as a rule, not held a
Grand parade in this
holiday. Although, in
some areas, this tradition
is still preserved.

For many years labor Day was the last day of the
year when you could dress in white. In 50-60 years
of last century, women's fashion magazines were
categorical on this: the clothes of white color
started to wear in Memorial Day (last Monday in
may) and it was no longer an acceptable color in
clothing after Labor Day in early September.

For many people, this
day is associated with
the end of the summer
holidays. For sports fans
– with the beginning of
new sports season in
football, including
student football. Also,
many American schools
start their academic
year in late August or
early September.
