6. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

• Bogorodskoe is an urban-type
settlement and the administrative
center of Bogorodskiy district of
the Kirov region
• It is located 127 km far from the
regional center of Kirov and 73 km far
from the settlement of Zuevka, the
nearest railway station
• Bogorodskoe is itself a historic
landmark which is more than 300
years old
• The population of the settlement is
4,300 people

7. ORIGIN OF THE FESTIVAL NAME

• “Ryzhik” is the name of a kind of
mushroom
• The English name of this mushroom is
“saffron milk cap”
• Bogorodskiy district is famous for its
rich harvest of these mushrooms
• Women pickle mushrooms to cook
various delicious dishes of them
• Pickled mushrooms is one of the most
favorite snacks with the Russians

• “Bogorodsiky ryzhik” is the first
autumn festival which is held
in the second part of
September
• Hundreds of ryzhik lovers
come here every year in
autumn for picking mushrooms
