Russia. It is located in the Eastern
part of Europe at the junction of the
Volga and Kama rivers. Its

people. Climate is moderatecontinental with warm, sometimes hot
summers and moderate cold winters.
The main wealth of Tatarstan is oil,
the stock of which is about one billion
tons a year.

the puppet theater was in
the building of the former
Church of the Descent of
the Saints’ Spirit. It is

a new theater building seven-story, in the form
of a fairytale castle.

done without comparison with the

5. The Kul-Sharif

The Kul-Sharif Mosque is the main
mosque of Tatarstan. It is located in the
territory of the Kazan Kremlin and is
considered one of the largest in Europe.
The reconstruction of the mosque began
in 1996, and ended already in our
century (2005). The architectural
complex was built on the site where once
was the famous mosque of the Kazan
Khanate, which in the 16th century the
troops of Ivan the Terrible destroyed.
The name of the mosque was in honor of
the last Imam, who led the service in the
ruined church. It is known that before
the mosque had 8 minarets, no other
Muslim temple on earth had such a
number.

6. Tower Syuyumbike

Tower Syuyumbike
This tower is considered to be the pearl of
the Kazan Kremlin. It has seven storeys
and is built of red brick. Residents of
Kazan associate the name of the tower
with the name of the Tatar tsarina
Syuyumbike. In the 18th century it
served as a watchtower. In its
architecture closely intertwined
elements of Russian and Tatar
architecture of that time. In the last
century the tower was repeatedly
reconstructed, and today the Muslim
adhan (call to prayer) is read here. The
Syuyumbike Tower refers to the
architectural monuments of Kazan, as
a historical and cultural value of the
Tatar people.

7. Mardzhani Mosque

Mardzhani Mosque
The construction of this mosque
began in 1767. It happened after the
visit of Empress Catherine to Kazan.
Residents complained to the queen
that they had no opportunity to
conduct divine services. Catherine
the Great was distinguished for her
tolerance for various faiths and gave
an order to the governor of Kazan
not to interfere with the construction
of the mosque.
On the donations of the inhabitants,
the Marjani Mosque was built, the
first religious Muslim structure
since the time of Kazan's capture by
Ivan Terrible. During the Soviet
period, Mardzhani was the only
mosque in Kazan.
