THE HOTTEST SUMMER
It was the hottest summer I can remember. The
could not find any shade. The leaves were dry and did
give shade. The ducks and geese could not swim in the
river because it was dry.
The wheat in the field was dry and the farmers had to harvest it. My
father was in the field. He worked with Dick, his brother, there. My sister
Betty and I were in the field, too. We brought water and food for them.
When we wanted to go home, Betty shouted: "Fire! I can see a fire!"
Dick stopped the lorry and jumped out. Now we all could see the fire.
"Keep Betty in the lorry," cried Dick and he ran to the fire.
I had to stay with Betty in the lorry and I didn't like it. I couldn't leave
her alone. The wheat near the lorry was on fire. The lorry might catch
fire, too, and then it might explode.
I quickly jumped out of the lorry, poured water on my jacket and
began to beat the fire round the lorry.
When father and Dick saw it, they ran to the lorry.
Dick asked me, "What about your eyebrows, Fred?"
I put my hand to my eyebrows, but could not find them. Father
promised me a new pocket - knife as a reward, a knife with two blades
and a new bike. What more can a boy want?

Tom said.
"I started a new project with my uncle Dave."
"What kind of work were you doing?" Tom asked.

"I know what you mean," Tom said. "With a series of pictures you
wanted to tell a story. Have you already finished your project?"
"We have already taken lots of pictures, but we are still working at our
essay. There is the beginning, the middle and the end of our picture
story. Some photos serve as their opener. We have also made other
photos to carry our main theme and, finally, we'll use some shots to
finish up with," Dan explained.
"It sounds great, Dan. I guess you both were too busy last summer. As
the result, you have lots of stories to tell, when we go back to school. I
can hardly wait to hear and see them all."

interesting cartoon.
Once there were two mice who were friends. One mouse
lived in a city; the other mouse lived in the country. One day the Country

Country Mouse took his friend to his home in a field and gave him some
wheat to eat. It was very good wheat. The City Mouse said, "This wheat
is not good and your home is not good, it is cold in winter and hot in
summer. I live in a nice house made of stone and eat nice food. Come to
see me at my home in the city.“
So the Country Mouse visited the City Mouse. The house was very
good and there were nice bread and butter to eat. But when they began
to eat they heard something. The City Mouse said quickly, "Run!! Run!
The cat is coming." And they ran away. In a few minutes they came back.
Then the Country Mouse said, "This is a fine house, but I do not like to

Dear Liz,You ask me about my family holidays. So I am writing to you
about some of them.
There are many different holidays in our country. First of all
it's the New Year holiday. We always celebrate it at home on
the first of January. We usually have a New Year tree and
decorate it with nice balls. We send and get many greeting cards for the
New Year. We also have a New Year party at home and invite our relatives
and friends to come to our place. We eat tasty things, sing songs, dance,
play funny games and give presents.
We also celebrate the Women's Day on the eighth of March. I love this
holiday. Mother is always happy on this day. My father, brother and I help
our mother and grandmother at home and give them presents.
We have nice holidays in May. The ninth of May is the Victory Day. We
always meet war veterans at school and give them flowers.
There is a special holiday for me on the second of August. It's my
birthday. I always get presents for my birthday. My mother makes a big
birthday cake with candles on it. I usually invite friends to my birthday
party. We have a good time. It's my favourite holiday. I'm very happy on
this day. I thank my parents and friends for their presents.
What do you do on your birthday? Write soon.

you,OUR HEALTH
When you are not well, you often have a high temperature.
Your mother makes you stay in bed. She calls in a doctor. The
doctor examines you; when he knows what is wrong with
he writes out a prescription.
Some medicines are not nice to take, but you have to take
them, because they will do you good.
After a few days, you get better, you leave your bed, and you don't have to
take any more medicine.
In a short time you will be in good health again, and you will go to school.
In a cold season, many people catch cold. When you have a cold, your
nose is running, so you have to blow your nose and to wipe it with your
handkerchief.
A bad cold with a high temperature is flu. When you have flu, you give it
to other people around you, because it is very catching. So, when you have
flu, you must stay at home.
When you have a bad tooth, you go to the dentist's: he pulls out the bad
tooth and looks after others.
Children who are in good health are rarely absent from school. Others,
whose health is poor, are often absent.
Children and grown-ups must take good care of their health. If you want
to be healthy, you must do morning exercises regularly, stay out of doors as
long as you can, go in for sports, eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and other
healthy food.

A HOUSE-WARMING PARTYMy aunt has a new flat in Lenin Street. It's a two-room

My aunt bought new furniture: a large wardrobe, a sofa,
two armchairs, six chairs, a bookcase and some other things.
The furniture in the living-room and in the bedroom is dark. The furniture
in the kitchen is light. A new big snow-white refrigerator stands in the
kitchen. That and the yellow curtains over the window make the kitchen
beautiful.
Mother says that my aunt is lucky because there is a telephone in her new
flat.
Last Sunday my aunt had a house-warming party. She got lots of presents:
cups, forks and knives and many others. Her friends made her two
wonderful presents: a big mirror and a vacuum-cleaner. My grandparents
gave her a washing-machine as a present.
My aunt cooked a lot of tasty things for that day.
One of my aunt's friends, who is fond of playing jokes, brought a beautiful
blue box and said, "This is my present to you on a house-warming day. I'm
sure it'll bring you much luck. Open it right now!" The aunt opened the box
and ... a funny little red kitten jumped out of the box! We all laughed very
much.
We had a lot of fun that day.

createdWALT DISNEY'S WORLD
I think you know the name of Walt Disney. To many people in
our century his name means the world of cartoons. Disney has
a lot of short cartoons and many longer films. His name is very
famous, and not only in America.
Walt Disney was born in Chicago on December 5, 1901. Then his
family left that city in the North of America for a place in the South. When Walt
Disney grew up, he began to draw pictures and create cartoons, and one day he had
an idea to make a mouse the main character of the cartoons.
He told his wife, Lidia, about this mouse character as a funny friendly little thing,
who could speak, dance and sing and who in fact, could live like a man.
"That's a good idea," Lidia said. "Call him Mickey." So that is what Disney called him.
In 1928 the audience saw Mickey Mouse on the screen for the first time. Mickey
became very popular and soon Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse were famous stars.
Then came other characters: Donald Duck, Pluto, and many, many more. Some of
them are bright, some are not, but all of them are usually kind and friendly. And
Disney's main characters are always clever. In fact Disney has created a special
animal world full of optimism and success.
Disney's stories end happily. All his films are easy and nice to watch. People always
enjoy his cartoons very much.
One day an idea came to Disney. He wanted to create a special place, a special land
for children and parents to have fun together. So he built Disneyland. Disneyland is

THE TREE AND THE TRAVELLERS
There was a hundred year old tree in the middle of a dry land.
gave rest and shelter to hundreds and thousands of travellers.
The tree was at the centre of four different towns. There was
other tree that can offer rest to the people. The tree was huge.
One day, two travellers were travelling from a distant place and tried to
reach a town at the east of the tree. They were walking for several miles on a
hot and sunny day. They started their journey early in the morning and it was
almost mid noon. The sun was too hot and they could not walk anymore
because of the heat. They were tired! Fortunately, they reached the place
where the tree was.
They were very happy to see a big tree. They decided to take rest under the
tree. They slept for some time happily.
They felt hungry and one of the travellers decided to climb the tree to look
for some fruit. There weren't any fruit.
He said, 'Oh, this is just a useless tree and it has nothing to feed us, not even
a fruit or even nuts!’
The other traveller stopped him.
The tree said in a sad strong voice, 'You can't be so ungrateful to me. I saved
your life from the hot sun!’
