We are a Research team, and we
would like to conduct a study. We
are interested in academic
performance and online education.
After a few brainstorm session,
we came up with a research topic.

7.

Our topic is "Students
Perceptions of
Academic
Performance in
Online Education"
How will we
answer our research
questions?
We propose 2 Research questions:
1. How do students perceive the effect
of online education on their
academic performance (AP)?
2. How does perception about the
effectiveness of online
education vary across different
disciplines?
They will answer these two
questions with a help of a
questionnaire/survey
1.To know
opinions of
students about
their AP in online
education.
2.To compare
opinions of
students of
different
disciplines about
AP in online
education.

8.

How will we answer
our research
questions?
They may answer these two
questions by collecting data
with a help of a
questionnaire/survey.

9.

Research topic:
Students Perceptions
of Academic Performance
in Online Education
Who will we send
our Questionnaire to?
Students from where?
Undergraduate student in
different majors (e.g. DJ.
SE, MT) because they have
mentioned their
participants in their
Research topic.
It is better for the team to
collect the data from their
university because they
have easy access to the
potential participants.

10.

Research topic:
Students Perceptions
of Academic Performance
in Online Education
What kind of
questions we might
ask in the
questionnaire?
1. They might ask students
about their background demographi
c information,
2. Opinion about academic performance
in online education
3. and how they vary across disciplines

11.

Task. Read the
Questionnaire questions
and decide which questions
belong and which questions
do belong to the given
section.
Have you previously taken any online courses? If yes, please
specify the number and type of courses.
Do you have pets? If yes, describe them
What is your major or field of study?
Section 1: Background
demographic
information of
participants
(undergraduate
students)
What is the last book you read, and what did you enjoy most
about it?
What is your current academic level? (e.g., freshman,
sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student)
What is your favorite leisure activity to do in your free time?
How would you rate your access to technology required for
online education (e.g., stable internet connection,
computer/laptop, software)?

12.

Task. Read the
Questionnaire questions
and decide which questions
belong and which questions
do belong to the given
section.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your knowledge
acquisition in online courses compared to traditional inperson courses?
Which social media platform do you use most frequently for
staying connected with friends and family?
Section 2: How do students
perceive the effect of online
education on
their academic performance?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your current
work-life balance?
How confident you are in the ability of online education to facilitate
practical learning experiences in Academic Writing?
To what extent do you see the benefits of project-based
learning outweighing its challenges?
What factors do you believe contribute most to your grades in
online education?

13.

Task. Read the
Questionnaire questions
and decide which questions
belong and which questions
do belong to the given
section.
Have you noticed any differences in the effectiveness of online
education between STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics) and non-STEM disciplines? If yes, please explain.
How do you think the nature of the subject matter (e.g., theoretical,
practical) influences the effectiveness of online education in different
disciplines?
Section 3. How does
perception about
the effectiveness of
online education vary
across
different disciplines?
In your opinion, which academic discipline or field of study do you
believe benefits the most from online education, and why?
How well do you believe education prepares students for success in
the workforce beyond traditional academic skills?
How effective do you believe educators are in fostering creativity and
innovation in their students?

14.

Finally, the research team came up with three sections of Questionnaire questions:
What is your current academic level? (e.g., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student)
What is your major or field of study?
Section 1. Background
info of participants
Have you previously taken any online courses? If yes, please specify the number and type of courses.
How would you rate your access to technology required for online education (e.g., stable internet
connection, computer/laptop, software)?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your knowledge acquisition in online courses compared to
traditional in-person courses?
Section 2. Opinions of
participants about online
education
How confident you are in the ability of online education to facilitate practical learning experiences in
Academic Writing?
What factors do you believe contribute most to your grades in online education?
Have you noticed any differences in the effectiveness of online education between STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and non-STEM disciplines? If yes, please explain.
Section 3. Differences in
educational field
How do you think the nature of the subject matter (e.g., theoretical, practical) influences the
effectiveness of online education in different disciplines?
In your opinion, which academic discipline or field of study do you believe benefits the most from
online education, and why?

15. Group Task 2 Create a questionnaire

Group Task 2
Create a questionnaire
You have to create a questionnaire of 15-20 questions for your research in MS Word. The questionnaire has to be created to obtain
your participants' opinions, attitudes, and preferences related to your research aim/objectives.
You need to follow the criteria below:
1.
The questionnaire questions must be relevant and aligned with Research Questions, Aims, Title.
2.
The questionnaire includes a variety of question types, such as open-ended, closed-ended, Likert scale, rating, etc.
3.
The questionnaire contains an adequate number of questions, falling within the recommended range of 15-20.
4.
Every person can choose from the response options provided in the questionnaire.
5.
All necessary parts of the questionnaire, including the title, introduction, questions, and ending, are included.
6.
There is good control of grammar and spelling throughout the questionnaire.
7.
The questionnaire demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary used flexibly.
8.
The questions in the questionnaire are crystal clear and unlikely to require additional clarification.
9.
There is little to no bias (subjectivity) present in the questionnaire.

16. Tips for students

1. Include an informative title, clear introduction (explaining why the data is
being collected and for whom and about confidentiality of responses)
2. Students may start their questionnaire with asking background information:
•students’ majors of study, their ages and gender.
3. Create a variety of questions Example
4. Include a "Thank you" message at the end of the questionnaire

17. Group Task   Giving peer feedback to a questionnaire   Send your  questionnaire to another group on Teams and assess

Group Task
Giving peer
feedback to a
questionnaire
Peer feedback
Do the questions address the problem/topic well?
Do the questions have a logical sequence?
Is there a variety of questions (open, closed, Likert scale, rating,
true/false)?
Is there an adequate number (20-25) of questions?
Can every person choose from the responses?
Send your questionnaire to another
group on Teams and assess each-other's
questionnaires based on the criteria.
Send the questionnaire back with peer
feedback.
Improve your questionnaire based on the
received peer feedback.
Are all the questionnaire parts (Title, Introduction, Questions,
Ending) included?
Is there a good control of grammar and spelling?
Is a sufficient range of vocabulary used flexibly?
Are the questions crystal clear and a person would not need to
ask for clarification?
Is there little to no bias (subjectivity)?
Yes/No
What can be improved?

18. Group Task   Create a consent form
