History: The Tower was founded in late 1066 during the Norman
Conquest of England. The White Tower, which gave its name to the
castle, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078.

Functions: The Tower served as an armory, treasury, zoo, home of the
Royal Mint, public archive, and home of the English royal jewels.

The ravens of the Tower of London are a group of at least six ravens that live in the
Tower of London. It is believed that their presence traditionally protects the crown
and the Tower. According to a legend, "if the ravens of London are lost or fly away, the
crown will fall, and with it, Britain."

Ghosts: Some say that the Tower's corridors are haunted by
the ghosts of former prisoners, adding to its mystique.
