5. Course Objective

Learn the key ideas and tools for designing and managing databases, from
diagrams and normalization to writing SQL queries.
Work together in teams to solve real problems by applying database concepts
and using DBMS features like transactions, fault recovery, and concurrency control.

6. Specific Objectives

1. Create data models and database designs for applications using
E-R diagrams.
2. Apply normalization to build schema designs.
3. Use SQL to develop database applications.
4. Manipulate data by defining schemas, tables, indexes, and
views, and write complex queries.
5. Apply DBMS transaction features to ensure fault recovery and
concurrency control.

8. Course Learning Outcomes

CLO1: Describe the basic theories (relational algebra, database
architecture, normalization and query optimization theories, etc..)
to support the designing of database.
CLO2: Demonstrate teamwork for solving problem using database
concepts.
CLO3: Use E-R diagram to model the database, transaction features
and of DBMS to achieve fault recovery and concurrency control.
CLO4: Construct SQL statements to define and manage (query and
update) relational database for given problem.
