Correspondence includes writing letters, emails,
mobile phone text messages, and faxes. It is
interactive, in that a reply is often expected.
Other documents like contracts, reports, or minutes
are statements that do not require a written reply.

Contracts are enforceable agreements.

What makes a contract valid (legally acceptable, often for a fixed period of time)?
a) the parties entering a contract were of sound mind (were not insane) and had the
required legal capacity and mental ability;
b) there was mutual acceptance of the agreed-upon terms.
An essential feature of a contract is consideration – something of value given or
promised by one party in exchange for an act or promise of another.
Breach of contract is the unjustified failure of a party to perform a duty or obligation
specified in a contract.

6. Various kinds of contracts

VARIOUS KINDS OF CONTRACTS
1. Employment contract/contract of employment – a legally
binding agreement of employer and employee, stating the
responsibilities and obligations of both parties.
2. Service contract – an agreement between a company and a
customer, stating what product or service the company will
provide, and any arrangements for delivery, payment, repair, etc.
3. Turnkey contract – a contract for a building project in which the
company doing the work must finish the work and leave the
building, factory, etc. ready to operate.
4. Hire purchase contract – an agreement to buy something by
making payments over a period of time.

Reports are documents which offer the reader the results of an enquiry
of some sort (such as research, technical inspection, visit, and
feasibility studies) or an account of some event(s).
‘Curriculum Vitae’ (CV for short; called a resume in the US) is a
short list of facts about you, your skills, qualifications, experience and
career history. It is normally sent together with a covering letter.
A price list is a listing of prices for different products or services.
Agendas are lists of items which are to be discussed at a meeting.
Minutes are the written record of that meeting.
