WHAT IS IT?
Every year, on the last Monday
in May, something crazy
happens on a very steep hill in
Gloucestershire, England. The
hill is called Cooper's Hill. The
event is the Cheese Rolling
Race.

WHAT IS IT?
For hundreds of years, people
have come to this hill. They
come to watch brave (and some
say foolish) people chase a
round cheese down the slope.
The hill is very steep and very
dangerous. People don't run
down the hill; they fall, roll, and
slide down!

THE RACE
At the top of the hill, the Master
of Ceremonies rolls a big, round
Double Gloucester cheese down
the hill. It can travel at up to
100 kilometers per hour!

THE RACE
A second later, the competitors
start running after the cheese.
Gravity pulls them down in first
second. Most people lose their
balance and start tumbling head
over heels. They roll and bounce
down the hill. It is very chaotic
and very funny to watch.

The first person to get to the
bottom of the hill wins. And
the prize? They win that very
cheese! For the winners, it is
not about the cheese; it is
about the glory. They become
local heroes.

So, if you ever visit Cooper's Hill
on the last Monday in May, you
will see a funny spectacle: people
willingly throwing themselves
down a dangerous hill for a piece
of cheese. It's dangerous, it's
stupid, but absolutely
unforgettable.
