TENSES AND FORMSTO DESCRIBE FUTURE EVENTS
2. FUTURE SIMPLE (will + V1)
We express some action in the future, wecannot change anything.
Ex. John will be 10 in May.
Spring will come soon.
We predict things.
Ex. I think it will rain tomorrow.
I am sure we won’t get the answer.
We decide to do something at the time of
speaking.
Ex. Don’t lift the suitcase. I’ll help you.
3. FUTURE SIMPLE (will + V1)
We express intentions, promises, invitations,hopes, threats, etc. (probably, I hope, I
promise, may be, …)
Ex. I promise I’ll buy you a ring.
He will punish you.

4. PRESENT CONTINUOUS (am/is/are + Ving)
We talk about planned actions, near future(often with the verbs of movement – go,
come, arrive, fly, move, open, etc.)
Ex. We are having a party tomorrow.
I’m leaving tomorrow.
My dad is flying to Paris tonight.
We can use Continuous forms of “see” and
“hear” in the meaning of “meet” and “learn”.
Ex. I’m seeing the dentist tomorrow.
5. PRESENT SIMPLE (V/ Vs(es))
We talk about timetables.Ex. The train leaves at 6 a.m. tomorrow.
When does the film start?
We mention conditions (Conditional Type 1).
Ex. When Mother gets money, she will buy me
a new bike.
Present Simple (clauses of time and condition)
Future Simple (main clause)
With the words: as soon as, when, if, in case, till,
until, etc.
6. BE GOING to + INFINITIVE
We can see something on the way to happen.Ex. Look at the clouds! It’s going to rain.
A plan or personal intention.
Ex. Bill is going to sell his car.
What are you going to do at Christmas?
7. Choose the right form:
1. Next year he will be/ is five.2. Tomorrow it will be/ is warm with a few showers.

8. FUTURE CONTINUOUS (will be + Ving)
We talk about a certain time or a period oftime in the future.
Ex. I’ll be working in the library at 10 tomorrow.
I will be buttering the bread while you are
slicing the tomatoes.

9. FUTURE PERFECT (will have V3)
We speak about an action completed by acertain moment in the future.

10. FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS (will have been + Ving)
We speak about an action lasting for a periodof time up or including a certain future
moment.

crossword puzzle for two hours.
By the time he arrives in London Max will
have been driving for nearly five hours.
