This offender, who became one of the most
infamous serial killers in the history of the
Soviet Union, committed a series of brutal
murders, rapes, and dismemberments
across several republics. His criminal acts
were primarily directed against children and
young women.

Alexander Kravchenko was accused of a murder actually committed by the serial killer in 1978. The main fact that
influenced Kravchenko's fate was the rape and murder of a girl, for which he served 10 years. The court found him
guilty and the sentence was carried out in the "new case" in 1983. After the killer's arrest and confession, it became
known about this terrible judicial error. As it turned out, while Kravchenko was being held in custody, he was
accosted by burly criminals who brutally beat him and forced him to make a "sincere confession." In a petition for
clemency, he wrote:
"THE DAY AND HOUR WILL COME, AND YOU WILL BE ASHAMED THAT YOU ARE RUINING ME, AN INNOCENT MAN,
LEAVING MY CHILD WITHOUT A FATHER."

The trial of the accused was one of the most high-profile in the history of the USSR. He was
presented with charges under numerous articles of the Criminal Code, including
premeditated murders with aggravating circumstances, rapes, and sodomy. A psychiatric
evaluation determined his criminal sanity, making it possible to bring him to criminal
responsibility. In court, he confessed to 56 episodes of murders and sexual violence.
