2. Dog sleds

more then 1000 years ago
by people in Arctic
regions such as Alaska and
Siberia.
• They were invented to
travel over snow and ice
during winter. The sled is
pulled by a team of dogs,
usually huskies, which are
strong and resistant to
cold.

• Today, dog sles are
used both for sport and
tourism.
• They are popular
because they connect
people with nature and
snow traditional ways
of life.

4. Funiculars

• Funiculars appeared in
the 19th contury in
Europe.
• They were created to
help people move easily
up and down steep hills.

5. How the funicular works

• A funicular has two cars
connected by a cable –
when one goes up, the
other goes down.

6. Funiculars today

• Today, they are used in
many cities and tourist
areas, for example in
Switzerland or Italy.
• They are popular because
they are safe, fast and
give passangers
beautiful views
