Edinburgh• Edinburgh is Scotland's capital. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Britain. The heart of Edinburgh is the
thousand-year-old castle, where the kings of Scotland lived for centuries. Edinburgh has a busy cultural life.
Every year, in August, the International Festival takes place there. Musicians, actors and singers come from
all over the world and thousands of visitors fill the city. In the evening, the opera house, the theatres and
concert halls are full. In cafes and pubs, small groups sing, act and read poetry. The castle is at its best in
Festival time. Every night there is a magnificent military "Tattoo". Highland soldiers wearing "kilts" play the
bagpipes and march to the music.
• The famous road is called the The Royal Mile. The Royal Mile is a length of streets that connect through from
the High Street all the way through the Old Town including Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the Scottish Royal Residence of the British Royal Family.
• Holyrood Palace is located at the foot of the historic Royal Mile and sits on the edge of Holyrood Park.
• You shouldn't be noisy, as this a second home for British king or queen, who usually visit Edinburgh in
summer. By the way, do you know when Elizabeth II came to the throne? In the palace you can see the
staterooms and walk around the gardens and the ruins of the abbey. Behind Holyroodhouse is one of nine
Edinburgh's hills. Arthur's Seat is the main peak of the group of hills. From the top you can look northwards
to the great river The Firth of Forth
