Table manners

1.

ARE YOU SURE ABOUT YOUR TABLE MANNERS?
TABLE MANNERS

2.

What in your opinion the
main idea of this poem is?
To be healthy is not
only to keep fit and do
the sports.
It also means to treat
each other properly,
to respect people
around us,
to behave correctly
whatever we are.
And so today we
are going to create
a magazine «Table
manners at our
school canteen».
People sometimes say to me:
“Tell me, what do you want to be?”
I usually answer: “I don’t know,”
But it isn’t really so.
I want to win an Olympic race,
I want to see the Earth from space,
I want to travel to Timbuktu,
I want to be rich and famous, too.
I want to star on Hollywood’s screen,
I want to invent a new machine,
I want to be very clever and wise,
I want to win the Noble prize.
But most of all, I want to be
Healthy and strong, and happy.

9.

Let’s have a rest a little!
Sit still. Calm down and
relax. The sun is shining
brightly, the sky is fairly blue.
Close your eyes and just
imagine something pleasant.
You
hear
wonderful
music…
You see a fine picture,
don’t you?
You can use gestures
(move your hands, arms) to
make me understand what
you see.

10.

Table manners are even older
Let’s write
the book
“Table
manners
for our
school
canteen”
than tables. The first rules
appeared 9000 years ago.
But the first book of manners was
published in 1530.
The name of its author was
Erasmus.
Nowadays people know a lot of
different rules, however we often
forget them (especially in our
school canteen).

11.

SAY HOW TABLE MANNERS USED TO BE DIFFERENT FROM NOW.
Children used to stand
behind the adults.
People used to eat from
big pots.
Some people used to
blow their noses or spit
at the table.
In the past people eat
with their fingers.
Some people used to lick
the fingers, not to wipe
them on the tablecloth.
Nowadays children are
allowed to sit at the table
together with adults.
People eat from plates.
Nobody is allowed to do
it.
We use a knife, fork, or
spoon.
All people wipe fingers on
the tablecloth.

12.

What should/shouldn’t we do at the table?
1. Lick your fingers
2. Say thank you when you finish your meal
3. Use your knife and fork, or spoon
4. Put your elbows on the table
5. Sit up straight
6. Talk with your mouth full
7. Throw bones on the floor
8. Wipe your fingers on the tablecloth

13.

REMEMBER!
YOU SHOULDN’T
Lick your fingers
Put your elbows on the
table
Talk with your mouth
full
Throw bones on the
floor
YOU SHOULD
Say thank you when
you finish your meal
Use your knife and
fork, or spoon
Sit up straight
Wipe your fingers on
the tablecloth

14.

MOST OF
ALL I
WANT TO
BE HAPPY,
STRONG
AND
HEALTHY!
People sometimes say to me:
“Tell me, what do you want to be?”
I usually answer: “I don’t know,”
But it isn’t really so.
I want to win an Olympic race,
I want to see the Earth from space,
I want to travel to Timbuktu,
I want to be rich and famous, too.
I want to star on Hollywood’s screen,
I want to invent a new machine,
I want to be very clever and wise,
I want to win the Noble prize.
But most of all, I want to be
Healthy and strong, and happy.
