History of fashion developmentin the 20th century
Before the turn of the century, women wore
dresses with small bustles - pads that
visually enlarged the hips. In trend were
dresses S-shaped silhouette, and fashionistas
loved feathered hats and massive accessories.
This trend was even mocked by writers of
the time. For example, Chekhov noted that
at this rate women will one day adorn their
hats with horse tails and brooches with
buffer lights.

And then, in the 20th century, womenstarted giving up corsets. It is believed that
the liberator from the uncomfortable clothes
became the fashion designer Paul Poiret.
But apart from him, there were a few other
people who changed the trend. For example,
the French designer Madeleine Vionne. She
noted that it was because of her that
fashion society has given up uncomfortable
underwear.
At the same time, the stretcher did not
disappear for good - it was just used to
reduce the hips, not the waist. And yet, just
in the early 20th century, women gradually
began to notice the bra. Casual clothes also
became more comfortable: flepper dresses
with a straight silhouette and low waist.

Further more: in the 1910s and 1920sbegan to create their costumes Coco
Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli. The first
designer gave the women pant cruise
suits, and the second one started what
we now call collaborations. Schiaparelli
collaborated with Salvador Dalí and
later with Jean Cocteau. As a result,
came out iconic lobster dress, skeleton
dress, hat-shoe, coat with painting
instead of usual print.

By 1940, women had to give up elaborate clothes - affected by the lack of materialsand general depressive mood on the background of the Second World War. And then
Christian Dior came and gave the fashionistas what they had always dreamed of - a
chance to be gentle creatures worthy of beauty. He was followed in the same
direction by Cristóbal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Balman.
Brands became more and more, the
location of the fashionable capital
changed all the time. For example,
until the 1950s it was Paris. And then
there was London, although in
France there were still iconic
designers. But most importantly,
marketers and fashion designers have
borrowed from economists an
important word, which we use so far
– a trend.

Brands, although they did not like todepart from tradition, understood: you
need to watch the changes in society so
that clothes were in demand. This is how
trend watchers came to be. These are the
analysts who monitor the signals, and they
are hinting at new trends.
