24. Reading Books
• Don’t you think books are the best thing in the world? I can’t remember a• time in my life when I wasn’t reading a book. I still have memories of being
• in my school library when I was about five years old. I have been a bit of a
• bookworm since then. You’ll usually see me with my head buried in a book.
• I love all kinds of books. Novels are great for getting to know other
• worlds and cultures. A good book is one where you never want the story to end.
I also like autobiographies because I think it’s interesting to read
• about people’s lives. Encyclopedias are cool too – you can learn
• everything about everything in these. I still prefer books to the Internet.
25. School
• Most kids say they don’t like school. They say their subjects are boring orthere’s too much homework. In fact, school is one of the best times of a
person’s life. Think about it. The hours are short – usually just six hours a day.
You have the opportunity to learn lots of really useful stuff. You get to do
science experiments, learn a musical instrument and play sports. On top of
that, you get loads of holidays. Oh, I nearly forgot, you also get to see and play
with your friends five days a week. What is there not to like? OK, school lunches
are not the best in the world but you can bring your own lunch. And yes, exams
are stressful, but if you study, you’ll do well in them. I’d love to go back to
school. If I had another chance, I’d try my best in every subject.
• 1 Do you like going to school?
• 2 What is your school like?

There is good news and bad news regarding the number of trees onour planet. The good news is that there are seven times more
trees on Earth than we thought. Until a few years ago, scientists
estimated that the world had around 400 billion trees. However,
a new study from Yale University estimates that there are around
three trillion trees. That's a three followed by 12 zeroes. That
means there are more than 420 trees for every person alive
today. Lead researcher Dr Thomas Crowther told the BBC that the
new estimate will not change anything. He said: "It's not like
we've discovered a load of new trees. It's not good news for the
world or bad news that we've produced this new number."
