History
The Tretyakov State Gallery is the largest and
most famous museum of Russian fine art in
Moscow and the second largest in Russia.
The gallery was founded by Peter Tretyakov
in 1856. He visited exhibitions and bought
the best pictures. He had to add rooms to his
house because his collection was growing
bigger and bigger. And he opened the gallery
to show the people his collection.

has Russian paintings, sculptures, graphics
and much more.
It is located in the center of Moscow near
the Tretyakovskaya metro station

Morning in a Pine

Paintings
The work was written by artists Ivan Shishkin and
Konstantin Savitsky in 1889. When you first look at
the picture, it seems that it is alive. It shows a
bear family out for a walk and beautiful centuryold pine trees. The landscape was painted by
Shishkin, and the bears were painted by Savitsky.
But for a long time no one knew that Savitsky was
also the author of this work.

Bogatyrs

Bogatyrs (another common name of this painting «Three heroes») is a painting by Russian
artist Victor Vasnetsov. It was painted in 1898.
Vasnetsov worked on it for about twenty years. In
the painting we can see three bogatyrs, who are
the main heroes of numerous bylinas: Dobrynya
Nikitich, Ilya Muromets and Alyosha Popovich

Girl with Peaches is a painting by Russian
artist Valentin Serov. It was painted in 1887. The
girl is Vera Mamontova. Vera is holding a big
yellow peach in her hands. On the table in front of
her there are three more peaches.

The horsewoman

The Horsewoman is a painting by Karl Bryullov,
painted in 1832. This is a portrait of Giovanina and
Amacilia Pacinni. The beautiful Giovanini sits on a
horse while her younger sister watches her. Before
that, only generals and titular persons were
showed on horseback.
