Asexual and sexual reproduction of plants

1.

Asexual and sexual
reproduction of plants

2.

Lesson objectives
To describe asexual and sexual
reproduction of plants.

3.

REPRODUCTION
Reproduction is one of the main
characteristics of living things
By reproduction species
continue their existence
During reproduction genetic
material (DNA) is copied and
passes to the next generation

4.

5.

There are two types of
reproduction among living things
Asexual reproduction
Sexual reproduction

6.

Asexual reproduction
In this type of the reproduction
new organism develop from one
parent
New offspring is genetically
same as the parent.
Simple organisms such as
bacteria, fungi, plants and some
simple animals can reproduce
asexually

7.

Asexual reproduction in plants
Asexual reproduction in plants
occurs by means of vegetative
organs (root, leaf, stem) and
spores
Reproduction by vegetative
organs is called vegetative
propagation.
Reproduction by spores is called
sporulation.

8.

Spore
Spore is a cell with hard coat
that has ability to develop into a
new plant organism

9.

10.

11.

Sexual reproduction
There are two parents
in this type of the
reproduction.
New offspring is
genetically different
from parents

12.

GAMETES
Reproductive cells or gametes play a
role in sexual reproduction.
Male gamete are called sperm.
Female gamete are called egg cell.
During sexual reproduction gametes
(egg and sperm) fuse in the process
called fertilization.
After fertilization zygote is formed.

14.

15.

Biological role of asexual and sexual
reproduction
Asexual reproduction takes
less time, but produces
genetically identical offspring
Sexual reproduction takes
more time, but produces
genetically different
offspring. It helps to adapt to
changing environment
