Future simple
We use Future Simple to talk about
decisions at the moment of speaking – it is
spontaneous. It is about promises,
emotions, sudden ideas and actions in the
nearest future.
It’s so cold here! I will close the window,
okay?
I am so sorry but I can’t come today, mum! I
will visit you tomorrow, I promise.

To be going to (do sth)
We use To be going to (do sth) to talk about
intentions – it is neither spontaneous nor
certain. We are 60-70% sure about these
plans.
NB! I am going to go to Paris ≠ I am going to Paris
I am going to finish this report before lunch
but I don’t know yet.
We are going to travel to Spain this summer
but the frontiers are still closed because of
Coronavirus.

Present continuous
We use Present Continuous to talk about an
arrangement – it is certain, we know the
date, the time, the place etc. We are 99%
sure about these plans.
NB! I am going to go to Paris ≠ I am going to Paris
We are visiting my grandma in Florida this
weekend. We have already bought the
tickets.
I am starting my programming course on
Monday. It cost 99$.
