— the official currency of Ukraine. In accordance with the Decree
of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma and Articles 99 and 102
of the Constitution of Ukraine, during September 2-16, 1996, a
monetary reform was carried out in Ukraine. The national currency
of Ukraine, the hryvnia, and its one-hundredth part, the kopeck,
were put into circulation. The letter code of the currency is UAH,

• Coins in denominations of 10, 50 kopecks, 1, 2, 5, 10 hryvnias and
banknotes in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500,
1000 hryvnias are in circulation today. As of July 1, 2018, the
National Bank of Ukraine stopped issuing coins in denominations of
1, 2, 5, and 25 kopecks.

Currecy• As of October 1, 2019, 1, 2, and 5 kopeck coins ceased
to be legal tender in Ukraine, and as of October 1,
2020, 25 kopeck coins also lost their status as a means
of payment. During 2018-2020, coins with
denominations of 1, 2, 5, and 10 hryvnias were put into
circulation, which will gradually replace banknotes of
the corresponding denominations. On October 25,
2019, a 1,000 hryvnia banknote was put into
circulation. After the completion of the arrangement of
the nominal series of hryvnia coins and banknotes,
coins in denominations of 10, 50 kopecks, 1, 2, 5, 10
hryvnias and banknotes in denominations of 20, 50,
100, 200, 500 and 1000 hryvnias will be in circulation.

There’s hardly a country in the world which doesn’t have Taras Shevchenko’ poems
translated into its language. Gentle melodies and deep emotions of Lessya
Ukrainka’s verses are dear to poetry-lovers throughout the world. Thanks to them
Ukrainian language is considered one of the most soft and musical languages.
Ukraine has also given the world many outstanding scientists. Such names as
Vernandsky, Zabolotny, Bogomolets, Sklifosovsky, Paton, Filatov are well-known all
over the world. Nowadays modern Ukrainian scientists achieved great success in
the field of mathematics, physics, biology and medicine. Great contribution to the
world’s historical science was made by such prominent Ukrainian historians as
Mihailo Dragomanov, Dmitro Yavornitskiy, Mikola Kostomarov. The Ukrainian
national composer school is connected with the name of Mycola Lysenko.
Lysenko’s operas “Taras Bulba”, “Natalka Poltavka”, “Eneida” are still staged at the
world’s opera houses. The Ukrainian fine art is represented by the names of
Konstandi, Murashko, Botovikovsky, Pimonenko. The Ukrainian culture always
developed human traditions of the mankind.
