NeuronsNervous system
consists of nerve
cells called neurons.
They generate and
conduct nerve
impulses (signals).
6.
There are three types of neuronsaccording to function:
1.
Sensory neurons or afferent neurons receive
signals from sense organs to the central nervous system.
Interneurons make up the central nervous system {brain,
spinal cord} , they interpret the signals that come from the sense
organs and send impulses to motor neurons.).
2.
Motor neurons or efferent neurons receive
impulses from interneurons and send it to organs.

Neuron structureNeuron consists of three parts:
Cell body
2. Dendrite
3. Axon

9.
Cell bodyCell body contains most of cell organelles
and nucleus.
10.
DendriteDendrites are numerous short
projections of the neuron.
It receives impulses and transfer it to the
cell body.
11.
AxonAxons are long projection of a neuron.
Generally there is only one axon in a
neuron.
It conducts nerve impulse from cell body
to another neuron.
