Synonyms, words that have the same basic

emotional meaning. For example, the words
stingy and frugal both mean "careful with
money.“ (COD) However, calling someone stingy
is an insult, but calling someone frugal is a
compliment. Similarly, a person would prefer to
be slender but not skinny, aggressive but not
pushy. Therefore, speakers should be careful in
choosing words because many so-called
synonyms are not really synonymous at all.

red lights everywhere. The police do not do much
about it because they are too busy. The only time

and then it is too late. In conclusion, running a red
light is a serious offense.
