History
Bip Fortress (Pavlovsk, St.
Petersburg) Tower castle of the late
18th century on the site of a former
Swedish outpost. The project of a
funny fortress for Emperor Paul I was
developed by the same V. Brenna,
one of the creators of the
Mikhailovsky Castle. The building has
two round towers: one of them (with
rectangular battlements) is
decorated in the Romanesque style,
and the other (with a spire) is in the
Gothic style.
Despite the fact that the building
was, intended to receive guests, it
was a real fort - with bastions,
artillery pieces and a drawbridge. A
picturesque landscape park was laid
out around the castle.

What happened after it was built?
There are several versions of the
origin of the name. One suggestion
is that Bip is an acronym for "Pavels
big toy."
After 1917, the castle housed a
variety of institutions, including an
orphanage. During the Great
Patriotic War, the historical building
burned down and turned into ruins
for half a century. In the 2000s, the
castle was completely restored, and
today it houses a hotel and a
restaurant. It will turn out to live
like a king in one of the rooms costing from 12 to 60 thousand
rubles per night.

Until the middle of the bip fortress
was abandoned. It was from that
time that rumors began to spread
that the dead troops who defended
this fortress settled there. In the
middle of two thousand years, this
fortress found its owner. It has been
restored and converted into a hotel.
Guests often complain about strange
phenomena occurring in this
building. Maybe just a plug to fall, or
maybe the door will slam shut
