3. Family Time

Carl Chang (live) in Toronto with his wife Deborah
and their two children.
Carl is a freelance graphic designer and also
(teach) part-time at a community college.
Deborah (work) for a number of clients. She’s an
accounting consultant. She (set) up books and
software systems for companies to organize their
work.

4. Family Time ... Carl’s family

Carl’s mother Mary is from Edmonton, Alberta
and his father Tony is from Xiamen in China’s
Fujian province. They (live) close to Carl’s family
in Toronto.
At least once a month the children (spend) a
weekend with them.

Deborah’s family (live) in Denmark.
Deborah was born in Copenhagen. She came to
Canada to study business and met Carl at
school.
Deborah’s father Villy and her mother Linda

Carl (get) up before Deborah and the children. He
(like) the quiet time. Sometimes he (exercise)
before anyone else (wake) up.
Deborah usually (wake) up next and (drink) a glass
of warm water before she (brush) her teeth.

children so the family can exercise together.
Calvin is the oldest, but always the most difficult
to wake up.

Calvin rarely (make) his bed. In fact, his room is
so messy it is difficult to find his bed.
In the time it (take) for Calvin to get out of bed,
Carl is able to organize his work for clients and
the books and notes for his classes.
Deborah (work) at home, but usually (have/has)
things sorted the night before.
Although Deborah (work) from home, her
mornings are filled with client meetings. So, her
afternoons and evenings can be free.

8. Family Time

They always (prepare) the garbage from the
kitchen, and sometimes there’s some from the
bedrooms, the living room, their small office, or
the bathroom. They (take) the elevator down and
(walk) out to the apartment complex’s courtyard.

Once they arrive at the courtyard, they stretch.
They always have to remind Calvin to stretch.
They always walk 4 laps around the complex
which is about 2.5 km. Carl usually (stop) at 2
laps so he can exercise quickly, (go) upstairs,
(shower), and then eat breakfast with Deborah
and the children. He then (drive) the children to
school. They have to be at school at 8:00 am. He
(like) to start work by 8:30am.

On the days they don’t exercise, Carl (check)
mail, (send) a few messages to clients, and even
(post) a few photos on his blog.
These are his days to do design work, and so his
small home office (become) an art studio.

km in the morning and then again in the evening.
He doesn’t drink coffee or eat anything until after

stretching.

Then he (do) 100 stomach crunches with his legs
resting on a chair or the sofa. In the same positions he

elbow to knee.

shower.
