2. The Hermitage Museum

THE HERMITAGE MUSEUM
• Museum of fine and decorative arts, located in
the city of Saint Petersburg. The second largest
art Museum in the world. The main Museum
complex includes six interconnected buildings the Winter Palace, the Spare house of the
Winter Palace, the Small Hermitage, the Grand
Hermitage, the New Hermitage, and the
Hermitage theater. They are open to the public
365 halls. Also at the disposal of the Museum
are the Main headquarters, the Museum of the
Imperial porcelain factory, the restoration and
preservation center "Old Village" and the
Menshikov Palace.

• Opera and ballet theater in Saint
Petersburg, one of the leading musical
theaters in Russia and the world. The
company, founded in the XVIII century,
before the revolution functioned under
the direction of the Directorate of the
Imperial theaters.

• Cabinet of curiosities, currently the
Peter the Great Museum of
anthropology and Ethnography of the
Russian Academy of Sciences - the
first Museum of Russia, established
by Emperor Peter the Great and

5. St. Isaac's Cathedral Temple

ST. ISAAC'S CATHEDRAL TEMPLE
• The largest Orthodox Church in Saint
Petersburg. It is located on
Isaakievskaya square. Cathedral of the
diocese of Saint Petersburg from 1858
to 1929. Since 1928, it has the status
of a Museum. Height: 101 m

STATE RUSSIAN MUSEUM̆
• The largest collection of Russian art in the
world. It is located in the Central part of
Saint Petersburg. The modern Russian
Museum is a complex Museum complex.
The main exposition part of the Museum
occupies five buildings: the Mikhailovsky
Palace with the Benois exhibition building,
the Mikhailovsky castle, the Marble Palace,
the Stroganov Palace and the Summer
Palace of Peter I. The Museum also
includes Mikhailovsky garden, Summer
garden, Mikhailovsky castle garden and
Peter I's House on Petrovskaya
embankment, as well as a number of other
buildings. The Museum's Director is
Vladimir Gusev. As of January 1, 2015, the
collection of the Russian Museum totaled
410,945 items...

7. Road of life

ROAD OF LIFE
• During the great Patriotic war,
the only transport highway
through lake Ladoga. During
periods of navigation on the
water, in winter on the ice. It
connected the besieged
Leningrad with the country from
September 12, 1941 to March
1943. A highway built on ice is
often called the Ice road of life.
There is also a Museum "Road
of life"near the osinovets
lighthouse.

ST. PETERSBURG ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
• Accepted in the literature
generalized name of the
highest scientific institution
of the Russian Empire in
1725-1917, located in the
city of Saint Petersburg.
The Academy of Sciences
was founded on January
28, 1724 by decree of the
Russian Emperor Peter I.
Date of construction:
September 28, 1724

9. Russian national library

RUSSIAN NATIONAL LIBRARY
• One of the first public libraries in
Eastern Europe, located in Saint
Petersburg. According to the
decree of the President of Russia,
it is a particularly valuable object
of national heritage and
constitutes the historical and
cultural heritage of the peoples of
the Russian Federation. It is one
of the largest libraries in the world
and the second largest collection
in the Russian Federation. Date
of construction: may 16, 1795

10. The Alexander column

THE ALEXANDER COLUMN
• An Empire-style monument
located in the center of Saint
Petersburg's Palace square. It
was erected in 1834 by the
architect Auguste Montferrand
on the decree of Emperor
Nicholas I in memory of the
victory of his older brother
Alexander I over Napoleon. It
is managed by The state
Hermitage Museum. Height:
47.5 m Date of construction:
September 11, 1834

11. Monument to Catherine II

MONUMENT TO CATHERINE II
• Monument on Ostrovsky
square in Saint Petersburg,
established in honor of
Empress Catherine II in
1873.

12. Palace bridge

PALACE BRIDGE
• Drawbridge over the Neva
river in Saint Petersburg. It
connects the Central part
of the city and Vasilievsky
island. The bridge is 250 m
long and 27.7 m wide.
