3. Why do chickens carry eggs of different colors?

The eggshell acquires a brown color
due to the pigments secreted by a
particular gland. Coloring is due to red
blood pigments and yellow pigments
that form bile. White eggs lack both
types of pigment.
In addition, eggs can even be greenish
and bluish. These are those that were
laid down by chickens crossed with a
breed of Araucans. (Araucana is a
domestic breed of bird originating
from Chile.
Chicken araucans lay green and
turquoise eggs about 160-180 eggs
per year, and they weigh about 50 g.)

4. What determines the color of a chicken egg?

It turns out that the eggs differ in color due
mainly to the hens themselves. Indeed, the color
of homes poultry is also very different,
depending both on the breed and on other
factors. So, light leghorns lay eggs of a snowwhite color, and the Wyandots always carry them
with a dark shell.
So, just looking at the chicken and the color of its
plumage is enough to understand what color of
the egg it will carry. If the feathers are white, and
the earlobes are also not pigmented, then the
shell will be whitish or very light. If the feathers
are brown or reddish, and the ears are red, then
the chicken will lay only dark, beige eggs.

5. Why are eggshells of different colors?

Brown shades of the shell appear when
the protoporphyrin pigment is present in
it. And the presence of such a pigment
depends on the breed of laying hens.
White eggs are obtained from Leghorn,
and brown eggs from Wyandotte.
Exceptions are possible. There are
chicken breeds with the ability to vary
the shades of the final product, which is
not considered a pathology at all.

6. The dependence the nutritional value on color outside.

The taste of eggs is affected only by the food
and additives used for birds, and not the color
of the shell.
The nutritional value of white eggs is not
inferior to their brown counterparts. All
products represent a healthy and helpful
product that contains many vitamins, minerals
and protein. The energy value of one egg is a
maximum of 80 calories, which makes eggs an
indispensable food product for various diets.

7. Why are brown eggs more expensive than white ones?

Regardless of the color and breed of the chicken, there is a stamp
on each egg (or package). The first digit indicates the category,
followed by the country and manufacturer code. Separately
printed date.
It is the category that can influence the price. But the category
speaks about the mass of the egg, and not about its quality. There
are several main categories:
C3 - 3rd category (25 to 44.9 g)
C2 - 2nd category (from 45 to 54.9 g)
C1 - 1st category (55 to 64.9 g)
C0 - Selective Category (65 to 74.9 g)
And abnormally giant eggs are awarded the category "B" - the
highest.

8. How to determine the quality of eggs?

At the initial examination, a high-quality egg should
have the following symptoms:
✔ no cracks on the surface of the shell
✔ clean from the remnants of chicken droppings and
fluff
✔ the shell should be flat over the entire surface,
without tubercles and deformations
✔ eggs from one package should be the same size and
weight (depending on grade)

9. Why are the eggshells on the ends stronger than on the sides?

Thin shell factors are many. Sometimes
the problem is associated with failures in
the physiology of the bird. The probability
of a thin shell is higher with an incorrect
approach to poultry feeding, chronic
pathologies. Moreover, the thin shell of
chicken eggs may be associated with the
reproductive cycle of laying hens.

10. Why are eggshells thin?

The causes of the problem.
Initially, everything is associated with an
imbalance in the body of the bird. This was
mentioned above. More often, laying hens
upset in the spring, when their body lacks
vitamins.

11. Factors provoking the problem:

Insufficient diet. For example, calcium,
phosphorus, iodine, iron, sodium, and
vitamin D.
Lack of walking system. We are talking about
round-the-clock keeping of birds in the
chicken coop.
Stress factors. The transfer of
birds to another group, the sharing of
neighbors of other species, changing the
feeding regime,
unsuccessful feed base, etc. All this
negatively affects the process of egg
maturation and, accordingly, the quality of
the egg.

12.

The egg shell thins with the age of the bird. In this
case, the struggle with the problem is nonrational. It's easier to send a bird for slaughter.
Immature reproductive system. The age of
puberty coincides with the day of laying the first
egg. Within two weeks, the processes of the
formation of the reproductive system proceed in
the body of the young. During this period, the bird
can lay eggshells and this is normal.
Disturbed hormonal background. Disruptions in
hormonal status cause age-related features and
ovulation.
Poultry disease with viral and infectious diseases.

13.

If the number of laying hens is large, and
there are few cases of eggs with a thin
shell? Then there is no point in focusing
attention on this phenomenon.

14. Important!

The problem under consideration
most often makes itself felt due to
errors made by an inexperienced
poultry breeder. This suggests the
need for constant study of the
experience of experienced breeders
and poultry literature. If the layers
aren’t enough nutrients in the feed,
they start to eat their eggs!
