Philip and Elizabeth's love story started when the two met at the wedding of Philip’s cousin, Princess Marinaof Greece and Denmark to Elizabeth’s uncle, Prince George, Duke of Kent in 1934. Princess Elizabeth was only
13-years-old at the time but she fell in love with the prince and they started to write letters to each other.

As the princess grew up, Philip would visit the family at their many homes, keeping in close contact with all ofthem. But King George and Queen Elizabeth didn't want to allow their 17-year-old daughter to have a suitor.
But it didnt stop the couple. A secret engagement between the two took place in 1946 without even
consulting Elizabeth's parents. Only on 9 July 1947, their engagement was officially announced.

Both Elizabeth and Philip don't believe in showing public displays of affection. But they still loveeach other. Their love story has stood the test of time. They have been married for 73 years now.

Philip was born in Greece, into the Greek and Danish royal families. After being educatedin France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1939.

Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Her father ascended thethrone on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She
was educated privately at home. During the Second World War, she began to undertake public duties serving in the
Auxiliary Territorial Service.
