2.

Can you solve
an old Komi-Permian riddle?
The more it is beaten,
the more beautiful it turns.

3.

The answer is
FLAX is BEATEN
(лён треплют)
We present
It is a Treasure of Our Land
and a part of
the Cultural Heritage of Prikamye

4.

- Flax was called "The Northern silk" in
Europe in the old days.
-Komi-Permians planted and processed
flax. Thread and cloth were made of it.
Hemp and wool were also used.
- Our textile traditions are still alive today.

5.

- The cloth was dyed and printed.
- Pyotr Subbotin-Permyak copied
about 500 print patterns in the 1920s.
- Craftsmen still use printing in their
work today.
The traditional blue and white
printed cloth looks simple but
appealing.

6.

- Pattern weaving is a
lasting ancient tradition.
- Woven belts are a popular
souvenir with the guests of
Komi-Permian land.

7.

- Komi rugs are peculiar for their colours. The rugs are
now uncommon for apartments but are an essential
element to create a cosy rural atmosphere in a house.
- "Grannies in Kudymkar do business on rugs" is a Perm
region news story title.

8.

- Komi-Permian textile techniques are various
but there is a universal element for all of them:
the ornament and the colour.

This is how the patterns are represented on
mittens and socks. Looks beautiful, right?

Remarkably, the same

both on socks and in
Komi heraldry.

It symbolises the sun.

13.

Komi-Permian textile is a linen thread
connecting the past to the present.
We hope it will be woven into the cloth of
tomorrow, too
