The Mona Lisa is a half-length portrait painted by Italian artist Leonardo
da Vinci. Now it is on permanent display at the Louvre.

The painting was one of the
first portraits to depict the
sitter in front of an imaginary
landscape. She appears alive to
an unusual extent, which
Leonardo achieved by his
method of not drawing
outlines.

marvellous sense of colour and composition.
