Federation and a Federal city. The
largest city in Russia and Europe by
population, as well as the political,
economic, cultural and scientific
center of the country.
Date of Foundation of the city: the
first mention of 1147 .
The day of the hero city of Moscow is
celebrated on September 5.

Symbols Of Moscow
The coat of arms of the city of Moscow is a
rectangular with rounded lower corners and
pointed at the tip of a dark red heraldic shield
with the image of a rider turned to the right of
the viewer-St. George the victorious in silver
armor and a blue mantle (cloak), on a silver
horse with a silver harness, striking a black
Serpent with a Golden spear.

Women and teenagers — about 600 thousand Muscoviteswere busy building defensive structures on the outskirts of

extinguishing incendiary bombs, standing at machine tools,
making weapons, creating a people's militia.

The defeat of the Germans at
Moscow was of great importance.
The myth of the invincibility of the
German army was dispelled on the
fields of the Moscow region . For
outstanding services to the
Motherland, mass heroism and
courage, and in commemoration of
the 20th anniversary of the Victory,
on may 8, 1965, the city of Moscow
was awarded the honorary title
"hero City"with the order of Lenin
and the gold Star medal.
