2.

Number of languages
in World
• According to Ethnologue, the world's largest language catalog, as of 2022 there are
7,151 languages on Earth belonging to 142 different language families

3.

The most extensive
languages
Approximately 2/3 of the world's population speaks the 40 most common
languages. Most people speak Chinese, Hindi, English, Spanish, Arabic,
Russian and Portuguese. French is also widely spoken, but the number of
those who consider it their native language (the first one) is relatively small.
The greatest concentration of different languages is found in Papua New
Guinea, which is associated with the many isolated mountain valleys in this
country. The languages of Papua New Guinea account for approximately 10%
of the total number of languages in the world.

4.

The disappearance of
languages
• With the development of communications, the number
of living languages is decreasing at an average rate of 1
language per two weeks. Languages die with the last
native speaker, and therefore the danger threatens, first
of all, the peoples who do not use writing. Thus, 80% of
the world's population has 80 languages, and 3.5
thousand Languages are only 0.2% of the world's
inhabitants. Globalization and migration are considered
to be the main causes of the disappearance of languages.

5.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the languages of the world are not only a means of
communication, but also a reflection of the culture and history of
peoples. Keep and appreciate your native language.
