Gelendzhik is one of the most popular Black Sea resorts in Russia

1.

Gelendzhik is one of the most popular Black
Sea resorts in Russia. The city is located
around Gelendzhik Bay, off the coast of the
Black Sea. It is located at the foot of the
western part of the Markoth mountain range.
The entrance to the bay, whose width is
approximately equal to a nautical mile, is
located between two capes: the northern one
is called the Thin Cape, the southern one is
called the Thick One, since the southern cape
has a high and steep coast.
Gelendzhik has a rich history. There lived
the Adygs, Greeks, Italians and Turks. It is
still unclear what the word "Gelendzhik"
means. According to one version, this is a
"small pasture" in Adygei. On the other —
"daughter-in-law" from Turkish. When in the
XV century this territory became part of the
Ottoman Empire, there was a major center of
the slave trade here.

One of the popular places visited by tourists is the safari park. Safari Park is an
animal rehabilitation center. The park itself consists of two parts - to get to the part
located in the mountains, there is its own cable car, which offers beautiful views of
the bay and the city

3.

Another popular tourist destination is the Golden Bay Water Park. Golden Bay is
one of the largest outdoor water parks in Russia: 15 hectares, 69 descents and 49
slides. During the peak resort time, the water park is visited by a large number of
tourists

At the top of the Markoth ridge there is a small chapel of St. Seraphim of Sarov with a 44-meter cross. The cross on
the background of the sea resembles the statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, so the attraction is jokingly called
"Rio de Gelendzhik". The cross is located near the tourist complex "Olympus" and next to the observation deck, so
many tourists get here. You can climb on foot, by car or by the Olympus cable car. In the latter case, there will be a
free transfer from the upper observation deck. The whole walk will take a couple of hours. The road is not difficult:
there are no large height differences on the Markoth ridge, but there are quite steep ascents.

5.

Quite a popular place among both locals and tourists is the embankment of the city. It stretches almost all along
the coast of Gelendzhik Bay. There are many monuments and sculptures along the embankment. In the
evening, a lot of people walk along the embankment. There are also a lot of demonstration shows and
performances. In addition, from here you can watch the most beautiful sunset.
