3.

Castle Howard is the ancestral
estate of the English aristocratic
Howard family, which throughout
its history belonged to the Earls of
Carlisle. It is located in North
Yorkshire, 25 km north of York.

4.

This luxurious estate was built three centuries ago in North
Yorkshire. In those days, the wonderful mansion was often called
"Paradise on Earth" and these admiring reviews are not without
reason until now.

5.

Charles Howard invited Sir John
Vanbrugh to build the estate. This
project was the debut for the young
architect. Vanbrugh chose a
magnificent continental Baroque
style.

6.

The main axis of the castle is
oriented in the direction from south
to north. The east wing was built
first, then the central part with a
memorable dome, and only then
the west wing. The design of the
facades varies: the northern one is
decorated with Doric order
columns, the southern one is
Corinthian.

7.

Castle Howard stands on a hill and
is surrounded by a huge landscape
park. The "Temple of the Four
Winds" was built according to the
project of Vanbrugh in 1739 and is
dedicated to the huntress Princess
Diana.

8.

Interesting fact: The palace complex
featured in the movie "Garfield 2:
The Story of Two Kitties" as the
habitat of the prince cat.
